WCA: Sequans, LG work on WiBro, Mobile WiMAX

19/01/2006

SAN JOSE, CALIF.--Paris-based WiMAX chip developer Sequans Communications announced at the WCA International Symposium and Business Expo here that the company will deliver a system-on-a-chip to LG Electronics that can be used in an array of devices supporting upcoming WiBro launches in South Korea and later Mobile WiMAX services.

Sequans plans on delivering base station and subscriber station silicon in the first half of this year, which would be on time to participate in WiBro launches by Korea Telecom and SK Telecom--LG currently counts both Korean servce providers as customers. KT is planning a broad commercial launch of WiBro in April, and LG is expected to follow later this year.

The partnership will involved Sequans SQN110 chip for subscriber unit and SQN2110 for base stations, and the vendor will provide Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) boards so that the chips can be easily configured based on the needs of the service providers, said Bernard Aboussouan, vice president of marketing and business development at Sequans.
